For our first ever spin-off episode of ‘Start Here’ on the road - we took our in-studio explainer format on the road, to Lithuania to talk what NATO is, what it does, and how the war in Ukraine has changed the western military alliance.

For our second episode of ‘Start Here - on the road’ we travelled to Afghanistan to explain how the pull-out of international forces and the Taliban’s takeover has impacted the economy. When we were there - more than half of Afghans simply didn’t have enough to eat.

A year after the Taliban took over Afghanistan we went there to hear from women about how life has changed. We met some high school girls who can’t go to school, so they’re now learning web design thanks to a charity. I was floored by how outspoken they were about how the Taliban has failed them.

I met Ngeth in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2017. We were doing a story about all the development in the capital and how it’s led to mass evictions, particularly along Boeung Kak Lake - where many residents-turned activists were often beaten and jailed for protesting.

I spoke to several survivors of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb attack, in 2016. That was the year President Obama went to visit the city. It was interesting to hear how many of them weren’t after an apology from the US President. Many are now advocates for the abolishment of nuclear weapons. They remember the destruction and the suffering - and that living memory is fading fast.

I covered the final stages of Colombia’s peace process with the FARC guerilla group in 2015 and then again in 2016 for the referendum on the final peace deal. This photograph was taken while we accompanied the Colombian forces on a logistical resupply mission for outposts still fighting the FARC.
