The Afghan Economy
For our second episode of ‘Start Here - on the road’ we travelled to Afghanistan to explain how the pull-out of international forces and the Taliban’s takeover has impacted the economy. When we were there - more than half of Afghans simply didn’t have enough to eat.

"They are obsessed with our hijabs"
A year after the Taliban took over Afghanistan we went there to hear from women about how life has changed. We met some high school girls who can’t go to school, so they’re now learning web design thanks to a charity. I was floored by how outspoken they were about how the Taliban has failed them.

Fighting for Boeung Kak Lake
I met Ngeth in Phnom Penh, Cambodia in 2017. We were doing a story about all the development in the capital and how it’s led to mass evictions, particularly along Boeung Kak Lake - where many residents-turned activists were often beaten and jailed for protesting.

"The light was so bright"
I spoke to several survivors of the Hiroshima Atomic Bomb attack, in 2016. That was the year President Obama went to visit the city. It was interesting to hear how many of them weren’t after an apology from the US President. Many are now advocates for the abolishment of nuclear weapons. They remember the destruction and the suffering - and that living memory is fading fast.

The FARC are down there
This was a helicopter ride over FARC-controlled territory for a story we were doing on Colombia’s peace process with the guerilla group. I went back in 2016 to cover a referendum on the final peace deal. I’ll never forget the shock when a majority of Colombians rejected it
